Why Are There So Many Ungrateful Americans?
Old Veterans Opinion
Ungrateful Anti-Americanism
When you’re fortunate enough to live in the United States of America, this old veteran wonders what the hell is your problem? We’ve got millions of American citizens who wake up late and walk around pissed off and ungrateful. I believe that some of this anger that fuels anti-Americanism really comes from ignorance.
Reportedly only about 7 percent of Americans have served in the military. That doesn’t mean that people who haven’t served are Anti-American. I’m also not suggesting that everyone should serve in the military. Being a soldier is not for everybody for many different reasons. The military can take you out of your comfort zone and that’s a good thing. Out of that green zone you’ve lived in all of your life. That idealistic city where you got the impression that America should be something that it was never intended to be.
Most of us have no clue that so much cruelty, abuse, corruption and murder happens in some other parts of the world. We’ve heard of ethnic cleansing for example but we don’t know what it looks like. Americans don’t know what it’s like to have their entire family overrun by soldiers who rape the women and girls then slaughter everyone there. Most Americans have never had their children taken away after dark and forced into a military run by communist leadership. Most of us have never lived in a world where women can’t attend school and must keep their faces covered. Most of us don’t know what it feels like when you’re a prisoner in your own country and cannot leave it.
Millions of Americans suffer from so much ignorance about the world and I believe it spews out in the form of Anti-American behaviors. We go on cruise ship adventures that only show us the tourist areas in front of some very terrible places. We’ve just been shielded from the real world outside the green zone for too long. It’s just one veterans opinion but I suspect that ignorance leads to the bad impression that some Americans have about their own country.
