My Family Relationships
At 70 years old, some of my family relationships (that are very important to me) don’t appear to be ending well. Without knowing how much time anybody has left, shall we just see how it goes? Maybe I’m carrying a heavy weight of regret and self blame. Maybe my career choices impacted my family life and ultimately the love from some of my kids. Balancing the demands of building a business and working hard, especially coming from a military background could be where it looks like I’ve failed. Adjusting for the emotional needs of some of my kids has turned out to be the hardest challenge.
Sometimes the very traits that made me a dedicated Veteran, Private Investigator or a driven Entrepreneur (like intense focus, resilience and working long hours) unintentionally created distance at home. Maybe I watched too much TV growing up where dads job was to “bring home the bacon” and make more money. Maybe I went too far in my efforts to shield the family from the dangerous investigative business environment. I could go on but what would be the point? Have you guys ever lost the love of your kids? If not, hopefully you never will. I ain’t so tough, it hurts, it bothers this old retired veteran a lot.
Camping doesn’t fix my issues or improve my grade point average with the kids but the outdoors, this website and maybe a little Jack Daniel’s helps.
