Tombstone, Arizona is a good place to camp with an RV, provided you know what to expect and visit during the right time of year. It’s a fantastic destination for history buffs, especially those interested in the Wild West, Wyatt Earp and the OK Corral. Old retired veterans like me grew up on western movies.
The Pros: Why RV camp in Tombstone?
Walking to History: Most of the RV parks are within a 20 minute walk of historic Allen Street. Meaning, you can easily see the reenactments, saloons and shops without moving your rig. But, I’ve got a travel trailer, so I prefer to unhook and drive my F-150 pickup. Winter weather from October through April is fantastic with daytime highs in the 60s and 70s. Oh wait, what about the dark skies? Southeastern Arizona offers amazing stargazing away from the glaring major city lights.
The Cons: What to Watch Out For.
Summer heat May through September is gonna be hot with temperatures regularly exceeding 90°F to 100°F. Folks in their 70’s like me have to be careful. Then there’s dust and dirt in the surrounding areas of the high desert. Depending on where you park, expect dust. You might find tight RV parking spaces at some of the RV parks. Some RV parks in town are older and have smaller spaces than modern resort style campgrounds. There’s also kind of a Ghost Town vibe at night after the tourists leave around 5:00 PM or 6:00 PM when Tombstone gets very quiet. If you’re looking for wild nightlife or shopping, you (ain’t gonna) find it here. I’m retired so I don’t give a rats ass about nightlife or shopping. Soon after dark, I’m going to bed.
