Camping For Retired Veterans
Cattail Cove State Park is generally considered a very good place to camp in Arizona, especially if you’re retired, like water stuff, desert scenery, boating and the RV lifestyle. However, whether it’s a “good” place for you depends on what kind of camping experience you’re looking for. Here is a breakdown of what makes it great, as well as a few drawbacks to keep in mind.
The Pros: (Why it’s a great place to camp):
Great Waterfront Location: Located just south of Lake Havasu City on the Bridgewater Channel/ Lake Havasu, many campsites are right on the water, offering great views and easy access to the lake. It’s a paradise for boaters, jet skiers, kayakers and paddleboarders. There is a boat launch ramp right in the park.
Boat-In Only Campsites: Cattail Cove offers remote boat-in campsites along the shoreline that are only accessible by water or trail.
The lake is usually well-stocked and popular for fishing (largemouth bass, striped bass, catfish, and crappie).
The Cons: (Things to consider):
It Gets Very Hot: From late spring through early fall, temperatures routinely exceed 100°F (often 110°F+ in July and August). Summer camping here requires serious preparation for seniors in the heat. Because it’s so popular for motorized watercraft, it can get loud especially during weekends, spring break and holidays. If you’re looking for total wilderness quiet, the main campground might not deliver. Because of its popularity, you usually need to book months in advance, especially for weekend spots or prime winter/ spring dates. So veterans, if you’re retired, like camping near the water, boating or want a scenic desert/ lake getaway, Cattail Cove is an excellent outdoors place to camp.
