Lake Havasu: ???? Daytime temps, around 102°F with bright, sunny skies. Nighttime, temps drop to about 80°F to 85°F overnight. Is it a good idea today? Tent Camping: Not ideal. Tent camping during a 102°F September day in the desert can be uncomfortable and exhausting. RV / Water Camping, more manageable if you have strong air conditioning in an RV or plan to spend your entire day submerged in the lake to stay cool.

Whether today is a good weather day for retired veterans camping in Arizona depends entirely on where you plan to pitch your tent. The extreme desert heat contrasts sharply with mild mountain conditions. Low deserts like Phoenix, Yuma and Quartzsite have extreme heat warnings with daytime highs soaring between 106°F and 110°F. It’s very HOT BABY. Camping in the low deserts right now is dangerously hot and unsafe without heavy artificial cooling. I’m staying inside my apartment today.
Flagstaff is experiencing a much more pleasant high of around 82°F today with a comfortable nighttime low dropping to 59°F. So, the high elevation forests areas are ideal for us older retired veterans to camp outside. Just watch out for a slight (20%) chance of a passing daytime shower.
