BIKE CAMPING
Bike camping is the practice of traveling to campsites using a bicycle as your primary mode of transportation. Bike camping combines cycling and tent camping while you explore nature, enjoy physical exercise and experience the breathtaking views of the outdoors. To get started, any reliable bike can work, from a used road bike to a mountain or gravel bike, depending on terrain. You’ll need a lightweight tent, sleeping bag, cooking supplies, water and food. Consider your route, the terrain and weather. Also consider the distance between campsites and your budget.
Bike camping (often called bikepacking or cycle touring) is booming in the United States. Events range from massive, multi-day self supported ultra races to weekend community campouts and gravel festivals. Many regional events exist, but the granddaddy of the modern scene are events put on by brands and advocates. There’s a Bikepacking Summit that’s hosted periodically in different locations by Bikepacking Roots, bringing the community together for advocacy, clinics and group rides.
