The Guide To Free Camping For Retired Veterans In Arizona: Page 2
The Interagency Access Pass (Free National Parks & Federal Recreation Lands): While not strictly “camping,” this card is a mandatory wallet item for any veteran who loves the outdoors. Under the perpetuity of the Every Kid Outdoors Act and subsequent legislation, all US military veterans are eligible for a free lifetime Interagency Access Pass. What it gets you: Free admission to more than 2,000 federal recreation sites, including all National Parks, National Wildlife Refuges and standard amenity fees on BLM and Forest Service lands.
Camping Benefit: While it doesn’t always make backcountry camping free (dispersed camping is already free), it gives you a 50% discount on campsites managed by the National Park Service, USDA Forest Service, Bureau of Land Management, Bureau of Reclamation and US Army Corps of Engineers.
How to get it: You can pick one up in person at any federal recreation site (like Grand Canyon National Park) by showing your Veteran ID, DD-214, or a Driver’s License with a veteran designation. You can also order it online through the USGS store (though a $10 processing fee applies online).
3. Arizona State Parks Pass for Disabled Veterans:
If you are a veteran with a service connected disability, Arizona has a wonderful program to help you get outside. The Arizona State Parks & Trails Disabled Veteran Annual Pass offers free day-use entry and camping discounts to qualifying Arizona resident veterans with a service connected disability.
The Benefit:
Free day use at all Arizona State Parks, plus discounts on camping within the state park system. You must be an Arizona resident and have a verified service connected disability rating from the VA. Here’s the Arizona State Parks & Trails website. <Back To Page 1
