Securing Our Border

What Does It Take?

Securing the border or any perimeter doesn’t exactly require rocket science. In addition, there’s no such thing as a totally secure door, fence, building, perimeter or border that can’t be breached. No plan is fool proof and someone will always find a way to break in. What we’re trying to stop are thousands that cross illegally now.

Many of us have been talked into a notion that securing a border is somehow racist. I’ve noticed that once we start down that old racist road, logic goes right out the window. I’ll cover why we need to protect the border in another post. For now, I’ll cover what it could take to get the job done.

We’ve tried asking people not to cross illegally and to apply through proper channels. We’ve attempted catching them after they’re here and deporting. We’ve also tried amnesty and the problem continues to get worse. So what comes next is a tall iron fence, barbed wire, security lights, underground sensors, security cameras, MWD/ Military Working Dogs, Border Agents, aircraft, watercraft and drones.

Even with all that security, somebody is going to still get through but we won’t be chasing thousands like we do now. Some of those good natured migrants will have to wait and apply legally. The drug smugglers will have to find another way to get killer narcotics in America. Our Border Patrol Agents will have the advantage for a change. Then we can finally talk about the illegals who are already here once the flood has stopped.

All this security will be very expensive. Maybe it’s the price we’ll pay for letting ourselves get in the mess we have now. Our homeless population is exploding and crime is way out of control. You think that maybe we can hold back some of the millions we give to other countries and spend it on our own security?
